Painting Productivity

Painting has become a vital part of my life. I’ve realized now how much I rely on painting as a form of release. I love it, can get fully absorbed in it and it reduces my stress and helps keep my sanity intact. These are all the paintings I’ve finished since the last one I posted many months ago.

The top two are part of my black and white thematic hand set. The streetlamp is an independent painting. The rest are little 5″x5″ paintings that are part of my “hope blossom” series, abstract flowers that are meant to inspire hope.

Thematic Hand Set: Legs (in progress)

I’ve been working on small flower canvases, which I will post in the future, but I finally started a large canvas piece. It is part of my thematic hand set, which will probably consist of 4 or 5 pieces. This is the 3rd one. I know I promised to post pictures, so here is a “in progress” one.

Words that turn me on and the Ampersand

Defenestration: the act of throwing someone or something out of a window

Melancholy: a deep, pensive, long-lasting sadness

Nefarious: wicked or criminal

Ninja: a member of the 4th-century Japanese mercenary agents who were trained in the martial arts and hired for covert operations like espionage, sabotage or assassinations

Omphaloskepsis: contemplation of or meditation upon one’s navel

Phantasmagoria: a sequence of real or imaginary images like that seen in a dream

Serendipity: fortuitous discoveries while looking for something unrelated

Sensual: pertaining to, inclined to, or preoccupied with the gratification of the senses or appetites; carnal; fleshly

Victory: act of defeating an enemy or opponent in a battle, game or competition

So, what words turn you on?

I painted three small canvases and glued them together and it now hangs on my wall. It was fun and simple. And yes, Ampersands are sexy and turn me on too.

Blue Hand Skeleton

This was the initial paint for one of my hand paintings. This doesn’t exist because I painted on top of it, but I still liked it.

My mood ring is like an abstract painting

Prompt: What color is your mood ring right now?

Strong lines of red fading to rose, splashes of yellow, a small spot of deep blue in one corner, swirls of magenta, on a black background.

(red: passion; rose: optimism; yellow: happiness; blue: confidence; magenta: artistic creativity; black: classic)

2nd Piece: Thematic Hand Paintings – Oil

This is the 2nd completed piece for my 5-piece thematic hand paintings. I may still go back to it later and tweak a few things (make indentations of the fingers in the stomach darker and/or  change the flow of the dark background and/or make the arm larger), but I’m saying it is finished for the moment so I can go the next piece.

Ode to a Canvas

Standing alone in the corner
patiently waiting to come to life

anticipating that first touch
feather light across the surface

embracing every last stroke
created in love, in hate and in-between

a whirlwind of colors and patterns
of moments shared and discarded

nothingness given life
life given meaning
