Painting has become a vital part of my life. I’ve realized now how much I rely on painting as a form of release. I love it, can get fully absorbed in it and it reduces my stress and helps keep my sanity intact. These are all the paintings I’ve finished since the last one I posted many months ago.
The top two are part of my black and white thematic hand set. The streetlamp is an independent painting. The rest are little 5″x5″ paintings that are part of my “hope blossom” series, abstract flowers that are meant to inspire hope.
Instead of making a normal bucket list, I decided to make one focused on ART.
1. Draw something once a month.
2. Paint a canvas bigger than me. (which isn’t all that big)
3. Paint the wall
4. Learn about artists
5. Take a pottery class
6. Learn watercolors
7. Participate in an art festival
8. Get into a museum
9. Paint something for each of my closest friends
10. To never stop creating art
I’ve been working on small flower canvases, which I will post in the future, but I finally started a large canvas piece. It is part of my thematic hand set, which will probably consist of 4 or 5 pieces. This is the 3rd one. I know I promised to post pictures, so here is a “in progress” one.
My friends have been absolutely amazing. They have distracted me and cared for me and I am so thankful. I love them all and I know they are filling some of the holes in my heart with their love.
The sun is out and my optimism kicks in. It is time for me to take steps for myself. First and foremost would be to get back to my art, which I have barely touched in the last year. This blog helps me express myself, but I am not a writer, I am an artist, albeit an amateur one with very little schooling.
I don’t pay rent now, but I will be moving soon, so I will need to watch my budget since I still want to get out of debt. Nonetheless, I am looking to take some art classes and having a studio space to paint.
So a struggling artist I will be! Wish me luck!
I remember my dreams most nights. When I wake I will let my mind grasp them momentarily and then I let them slip away. I used to dream I could fly. Not high like superman but high enough. High enough to feel the air play around me, joy and wonder fill me.
Its been years since I’ve flown.
Sometimes I feel like a bird who has clipped her own wings.
There are as many beautiful flowers as there are beautiful women who love them.
A handful of types of flowers and their meaning:
- Amaryllis: Splendid beauty
- Aster: Patience
- Delphinium: Heavenly
- Asiatic Lily: Majesty
- Oncidium Orchid: A belle
- Roses: Love
- Snapdragon: Desire
Drawing Day 2010 was June 5, 2010. This time I’m only 2 days late. This is my drawing for drawing day; in pencil and took about 10 minutes. My drawing from last year: Raven.
So what is your favorite flower(s)? Mine… orchids and lilies.

So, what words turn you on?
I painted three small canvases and glued them together and it now hangs on my wall. It was fun and simple. And yes, Ampersands are sexy and turn me on too.
