Frank Lloyd Wright and Florida Southern

Frank Lloyd Wright, 1867-1959
Architect, interior designer, writer and educator. In 1991 the American Institute of Architects proclaimed him as “the greatest American architect of all time”.

On my mini vacation D and I spent one of those days visiting Florida Southern College, which has the largest single-site collection of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture in the world. One great thing I learned about the buildings is that they were constructed by the students. Students provided the labor in exchange for classes, which they would not have otherwise been able to afford.

The buildings are neutral colors, low level buildings with flat roofs. Personally I would not have chosen to have flat roofs, would have to sweep them way too often. I did however like the stain glass in the buildings. The campus as a whole is very attractive with rose bushes, apple trees and a gazebo too.
